Aletta Renken, experienced and knowledgable mediator
There are many sides to a conflict. Not only a legal side, often also a personal and business side. Moreover, you always have your own perception of your dispute. As a mediator I make sure that all sides of the conflict and your perception of it are highlighted. So that you can resolve what is going on. How I can help you and in which areas I use my experience and expertise are set out below.
Solution-oriented approach
"Steering the process, involved in the content". That is how I would describe my approach. It is up to you, as the party at the mediation table, to determine what is discussed and what is a desirable outcome. During mediations I radiate tranquility and communicate openly and clearly. Together we make clear working agreements. This creates a safe environment. With my extensive mediation experience, substantive legal knowledge and experience of procedures and business processes, I am able to lead you towards solutions.
Work area
Since 2009, having completed the (postgraduate) training as a Legal Mediator/ADR Specialist at the ADR Institute in Amsterdam, I have been working full-time as an MfN-registermediator. In addition, I am an accredited business mediator with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR, United Kingdom). My working area covers the whole of the Netherlands.
As a mediator, I am deployed by the (international) business community, trade unions, banks, insurers, service providers, health care institutions, museums and education in conflict resolution. I have been instructed also by the courts of Amsterdam, Gelderland, Midden-Nederland, Rotterdam, the Enterprise Chamber (Amsterdam Court of Appeal), the SGOA (Stichting Geschillenoplossing Automatisering) and the Instituut Sportrechtspraak (ISR).

Who am I
After grammar school in Groningen, I completed my Dutch Law studies at the University of Groningen (1989). My first job was a lawyer in Zwolle with a general practice. This meant litigating and advising within all kinds of legal areas; family law, criminal law and civil law. During that period I participated in the European Young Lawyers Course at the University of Edinburgh (1994). That was a great introduction to law in the UK and Scottish culture.
Since 1989 I have worked alternately as a lawyer in litigation, as a corporate lawyer at ING, Vodafone and Translink, among others, and for a number of years as a deputy judge. I have taken many courses including the Postgraduate courses "Finance and Securities" and "Information Law" at the Grotius Academy.
I am also a mother of three sons (including twins), sister, friend, farmer's daughter, born in Loppersum, devoted to Scotland and Zeeland, learning Swedish, loving Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Michael Kiwanuka and Paolo Nutini, reading, photography, walking on the beach, cycling on my mountain bike, golf and Beau and Zorro, my two Beaucerons.
